On 16 April we published an article about Leeds United's appeal against the 
Football League's decision to deduct 15 points from the club at the start of 
the 2007/2008 season. In the article we reported a claim that Leeds United 
had deliberately "bent" the Football League rules after having gone in to 
administration. We would like to make clear that this claim does not 
represent the views of this newspaper. We accept that neither the club nor 
its directors, having gone into liquidation, "bent the rules".

We have apologised to Mr Bates for the misunderstanding and embarrassment 
caused.
