I remember the RAF pilots in the chipmunk trainer while in the ATC. Swooping
down on another plane while pretending that the radio push to talk on the
stick was controlling wing guns.

But they really showed it while I was doing my first glider training at age
16 near York. In an open top, side by side glider with a winch launch
getting to only just 1,000 feet above ground level he puts it into a steep
dive to pull off a loop. Then flying just over the heads of the bystanders
saying 'Lets scare those buggers'.

That was my first 3 solos in a glider - before I could drive a car. The next
solo (this time with aerotow and a closed canopy) would take another 38
years.
